he has my back...

and most of my cushion!
This is my new studio space...so far. There is still much work to be accomplished and of course, I've added more to the pile.

I've always wanted to design a needlepoint rug. I voiced this one evening during a trade show and my friend Libby groaned an emphatic 'no you don't'. She was the voice of experience having designed an enormous private commission for a client. So I let it float into the recesses of my mind. Still there...as I paint a rug design on my floor.

Have to admit, this is backbreaking work!! I find myself in some odd contortions and thank my body for being so flexible. What does my yoga teacher call it...hyper mobile. Basically means I have to be very careful as I can easily hurt myself and not know it.

So today, I'm painting, texting with my baby girl in Germany, laughing at pictures of my grandbaby with pureed beets from ear to ear and making myself get up and walk around often.

I am stitching in the evenings but darn, it's secret stuff. Not even a peek available right now.

This years card, Merry Christmas!
Yes, I bought myself a kaleidoscope recently.
Cheap entertainment that filled my head with fun new designs!
Could not share until the last card sent made it to it's recipient.
Sending packages to Germany can be tricky :-)

  1. Okay, I give! If you're designing a rug, I am in huge trouble! Cannot wait to see it. (and I'll save up for it in the meantime) :)

    1. It would be a very small rug if I do...not the size I'm painting on the floor. I'd drive myself to the edge if I designed a large one! The way I obsess when it comes to finishing a basketweave piece, oh my a rug would be epic.

  2. And your kaleidoscope Santas are not going to be painted on canvas so we can all enjoy them? I love them too. :)

  3. Ditto...love the kaleidoscope santas and think they would make a great canvas. Also, I've always thought about painting the wood floor in my kitchen. Think it is such a cool idea, but I've always talked myself out of it do to the amount of foot traffic. Anyway, yours is turning into the best painted rug design I've ever seen. Love it!

    1. Thank you Catherine :)
About my rug....I'm using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, it's super cool paint to work with. Under the tutelage of a local shop here, The Black Swan, I think I'm heading in the right direction. Once it's all painted, it will be sealed against wear and tear with several coats of clear lacquer. I'm loving the project, looking forward to posting the finish!
